Wayne High won three of eight events and claimed runner-up honors in the B-4 District speech tournament held Monday afternoon at Columbus Lakeview High School.
The Blue Devils got championship efforts in three events, led by seniors Megan Keiser (Humorous Prose) and Jack Osnes (Serious Prose) and freshman Christopher Woerdemann (Extemporaneous). All three advance to state competition next week in Kearney.
Joining those winners at state will be the freshman Oral Interpretation of Drama (OID) team of Isaac Davis, Dylan Anderson, Christopher Woerdemann, Walker Hochstein and Liam Spieker, which finished second; and senior Nate Burrows, who placed second in Entertainment.
As a team, Wayne medaled with 13 entries. Fourth-place finishes went to Jaci Torres (Serious Prose), Maura Loberg (Informative) and Keiser (Poetry). Osnes (Humorous Prose) and Miranda Fehringer (Persuasive) both finished fifth. Halie Chinn (Informative) and Liz Junck (Persuasive) each finished sixth and the OID team of Juan Hernandez, Annika Wachter and Ruben Vega placed seventh.
