Reid and Heidi Allen have another superhero crime fighter in their family, and he is Providence Medical Center’s First Baby of 2018.

Harrison Russ Allen was born Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 4:36 p.m. He was delivered by Dr. Melissa Dobbins and came into the world at 20 inches long and weighing 8 pounds, 3 ounces. The third son for the Allen family, he joins older brothers Carter, age 4 1/2; and Lincoln, age 2 1/2.

Heidi Allen said her two older sons are fans of superhero comics, and so they were anxiously awaiting the arrival of their little brother, who was dubbed Spider Man.

“His big brothers have been excited to meet him because they call themselves Batman and Robin and we’ve been calling (Harrison) Spider Man, so they’re excited to see him now,” she said.

Like his two older brothers, Harrison is named after a former President of the United States, Reed Allen said. His middle name is named after his grandfather, Russ Allen.

Little Harrison wasn’t expected originally until the end of the month, but Heidi’s progression through the pregnancy was a little quicker than normal, and the couple found out just before the New Year’s holiday weekend that they would be having the baby sometime this week.

“He was originally due at the end of January, but as it progressed the date moved up earlier, and Dr. Dobbins said he’d probably come in the next four days,” Heidi Allen said. “Everything’s great. He’s healthy and I’m doing good and the big brothers are excited to have a little brother.”

A total of 60 businesses in the community donated gifts to the First Baby of 2018, and the Allen’s were pleasantly surprised to see all the gifts that were waiting for them when they came into the hospital lobby for the First Baby presentation made by the hospital late Wednesday morning.

“We sure didn’t expect any of this,” Reed Allen said. “There’s a ton of stuff here and a lot of businesses in Wayne that donated, and we certainly appreciate it. Even thought it’s our third one, it’s nice to have some supplies and things to get going and we want to thank everybody for it.”
