Monday was a day to welcome home the national champion Wayne State women's rugby team after they won the national title in National Small College Rugby Organization action Sunday with an 11-0 win over Colgate University down in Marietta, Georgia.
The Wildcats beat SUNY-Cortland 58-5 in Saturday's semifinals, then had to play a stellar defensive game on a cold, wet Georgia afternoon to post an 11-0 shutout of Colgate University to win their sixth NSCRO national title.
By winning the 15-on-15 championship Sunday, the Wildcats now hold both NSCRO national titles, having won the 7-on-7 title earlier this year. This is their third national championship in 15-oin-15 play, adding to their titles won in 2012 and 2013. They are the current three-time defending national champions in 7-on-7 rugby.
Congratulations to the Wayne State College women's rugby team, your six-time NSCRO national champions.
