The Wayne Area Chamber’s annual Community Celebration took on a different theme from its traditional banquet-style affair Sunday evening.
The event was held in the Wayne City Auditorium and had a Las Vegas theme to it, with Wayne State Philomatheans and students serving as dealers for play-money games of blackjack, poker, plinko and craps. Tables were decorated with playing cards and a full house enjoyed music from Paradox as they surveyed silent auction items and enjoyed plenty of good food and drink.
The night offered a “taste of Wayne” with area restaurants providing samples of some of their most popular foods. Restaurants and businesses who offered food included AquaPop, Dairy Queen, Geno’s Steakhouse, Godfather’s Pizza, JB Mart, Magic Wok, McDonald’s, Pac N Save, Quality Foods, Runza, Tacos & More, The Coffee Shoppe on Main, The Max, The 4th Jug, Vel’s Bakery and Wayne East. White Dog Pub provided a cash bar as well.
Awards were presented at the end of the evening. They were as follows:
Patron of the Year
Providence Medical Center ambulance staff
Business of the Year
Rustic Treasures, The Coffee Shoppe, 1912 Emporium and Thrift Warehouse
(Owners Mark Kanitz and Lucas Rix, ironically, were in Las Vegas during the program. They provided a video thank you and the award was received by their staff.)

Misty Beair, WCS Director of Special Education
Citizen of the Year
Retired Judge Robert Ensz
